Madison Square Garden Parking

Madison Square Garden, does not own, operate or have an affiliation with any parking facilities, but patrons have the option to purchase discounted, pre-paid parking at Edison ParkFast, Icon Parking Systems, Little Man Parking, Sandy Parking and Quik Park.
There is the option for individuals with disabilities that have a New York City Special Parking Permit to park on streets and avenues around the venue, however, it is recommended that guests pay careful attention to the rules and regulations on the back of the permit, which provides information on where parking is and is not permissible on New York City streets. It is to be noted that New York City does not honor the blue New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut parking hangtag, or any other out of state hangtag, for the disabled or license plate for on-street parking. Vehicles that do not display the New York City Department of Transportation issued parking permit may be ticked and/or towed by the Department of Transportation.
Some of the local indoor parking lots are unable to accommodate raised-roof vans and vehicles, due to low clearance. Most outdoor parking lots do accept raised-roof vans, but it is encouraged that guests contact parking facilities directly to confirm their policies.
Getting to and from Madison Square Garden requires careful planning, particularly when navigating busy Midtown Manhattan. This section explains your best parking options and why many visitors prefer public transportation for convenience and affordability.
Parking Options Near the Venue
Finding convenient parking near Madison Square Garden can be challenging due to its central Manhattan location. While the arena does not operate its own parking facilities, there are several nearby commercial garages, as well as strategies to make your visit smoother and less stressful. Planning can save time, reduce costs, and ensure a seamless arrival and departure experience.
- Commercial parking garages: Numerous garages are located within a few blocks of MSG, particularly around Penn Station and Midtown Manhattan. Popular operators include Icon Parking and independent facilities on West 31st Street, West 33rd Street, 8th Avenue, and 9th Avenue.
- Event parking rates: Rates typically start at $25 to $35 for a few hours but can reach $60 or more during high-demand events such as major concerts or Knicks games. Prices vary by garage and proximity to the arena.
- Pre-purchasing parking: Apps like SpotHero, ParkWhiz, or ParkMobile let visitors reserve spaces in advance, guaranteeing a spot and often saving money compared to pay-on-arrival rates.
- Alternative parking strategies: Parking a few blocks away or in slightly less central garages can significantly reduce costs while still keeping you within walking distance. Arriving early also helps secure better spots and avoid congestion.
- Walking considerations: Most garages are within a 5- to 10-minute walk of the arena, providing convenient access without having to deal with street parking. Comfortable shoes and awareness of pedestrian traffic are recommended during event days.
Public Transportation Alternative
Madison Square Garden sits directly above Penn Station, making public transportation one of the fastest and most convenient ways to reach the arena. Penn Station connects multiple subway lines (A, C, E, 1, 2, and 3), as well as the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak, providing easy access from across New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area.
Subways and trains run frequently before and after major events, allowing visitors to travel comfortably even late at night. For those coming from outside the city, commuter rail services from Long Island, New Jersey, and upstate New York make Penn Station a key transit hub, linking regional travelers directly to the heart of Manhattan.
Most guests find public transportation far more practical than driving. It eliminates the stress of Midtown traffic, avoids expensive parking fees, and delivers you directly beneath the arena’s doors.
In addition, taking the train or subway offers a more relaxing and reliable option, letting you focus on enjoying your event rather than worrying about traffic or parking. With unmatched connectivity, public transit ensures a smooth, efficient, and stress-free start and finish to every Madison Square Garden experience.
