Brandi Carlile established a name for herself after numerous collaborations with famous artists and continuous domination of top spots in music charts. She named the tour after the second track of her newest album that focuses "on the values that are most important to keep in mind in troubled times, in a short lifetime on earth". She describes the tour as her answer to the road that’s calling her back again. She says, “This is the biggest tour we have ever done,” and she has “never been more ready to meet this moment”. On this tour, Carlile hopes to "make an arena feel like a living room".

American indie folk band The Head and The Heart will perform as the opening act in all North American dates of The Human Tour. Like Carlile, the band started their music journey in Seattle and gained more popularity in pop culture after having their songs Rivers and Roads, Down in the Valley, and Lost in My Mind featured in multiple television shows like New Girl and How I Met Your Mother.
